Specimen Requirement: Endocervical cells or Endocervical and ectocervical cells

Volume: Entire ThinPrep or SurePath vial or entire ThinPrep or SurePath vial and entire Gen-Probe Aptima swab transport tube.

Container: Entire ThinPrep vial with PreservCyt solution, or Entire SurePath vial with SurePath Preservative Fluid fixative or Entire ThinPrep vial or SurePath vials and entire Gen-Probe Aptima swab transport tube.

Special Instructions: Include date of birth, Social Security number, previous malignancy, drug therapy, radiation therapy, LMP, PMP, surgery (including biopies), exogenous hormones, abnormal vaginal bleeding, abnormal Pap results, IUD, and all other pertinent clinical information on the test requisition form.

Clinical Utilization: Chlamydia Trachomatis, Amplified Probe Technique

Methodology: Liquid-based cytology with ThinPrep Pap or SurePath Pap test and nucleic acid amplification

Storage: Maintain specimen at room temperature. ThinPrep and SurePath specimens must be processed into the Aptima system transfer tube for testing within thirty days for Chlamydia trachomatis and Gonococcus. The Aptima specimen transport tube is stored at 4◦ C and must be tested within 30-days.

Sample Rejection: Improper collection or inadequate specimen; specimen more than thirty days old in liquid-based preservative; specimen without identification; specimen that has leaked in transit and does not have the required volume; Gen-Probe Aptima collection tube with multiple swabs; unlabeled specimen or name discrepancy between the specimen and the test requisition form.
