Mara Aspinall (Chairman)

Former President, Genzyme Genetics

Mara Aspinall is past President of Genzyme Genetics, a leading worldwide provider of testing and consultative services. Genzyme Genetics is a division of Genzyme Corporation, one of the world's largest biotechnology firms with more than 8,500 employees and more than $3 billion in revenue. Under Mara's leadership, Genzyme Genetics successfully completed and integrated four acquisitions, expanded its research and development programs, and initiated new programs for community outreach and education. Mara is a frequent speaker in the area of personalized medicine and convergence of diagnostics and pharmaceuticals.

In addition, she has also served as president of Genzyme Pharmaceuticals and as Genzyme's vice president of corporate development. Prior to joining Genzyme, Mara was Director of Client Services at Hale and Dorr LLC, and was responsible for the firm's worldwide practice and development, strategic planning and marketing.

Mara started her business career at Bain & Company, an international strategic consulting firm. At Bain, she specialized in developing and implementing business strategies for health care product and service companies.

Mara is also actively involved in the Boston community, with a focus on the fight against cancer, and expanding educational opportunities for young children. Mara serves as Trustee on the Board of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. She earned her undergraduate degree at Tufts University and her MBA from Harvard Business School.

Marsha A. Moses, Ph.D. (Co-Founder)

Professor, Harvard Medical School and Senior Principal Investigator, Children's Hospital Boston

Dr. Marsha Moses is Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School and Senior Principal Investigator in the Vascular Biology Program at Children's Hospital Boston. She also leads the Urinary Proteomics Initiative first established in her laboratory whose focus is the identification and validation of non-invasive biomarkers for human cancers.

Marsha is an internationally recognized expert in the regulation of angiogenesis and leads a research group that conducts both basic and translational research. She and her group have discovered seven different angiogenesis inhibitors – five as the lead group and two as the collaborating group – several of which are being developed for clinical use. Her research provided some of the earliest proof linking matrix metalloproteinases to successful angiogenesis.

Marsha has authored over 90 peer-reviewed publications, including articles in Science, Cell, the Journal of Biological Chemistry and The New England Journal of Medicine. She has presented over 100 lectures to national and international audiences. Dr. Moses holds 38 patents, both issued and pending. Her awards and honors include the Cancer Research Foundation Award, the American Cancer Society Research Award, and the Center for Excellence in Women's Health Research Award from Harvard Medical School.

Marsha earned her Ph.D. from Boston University.

Michael A. Greeley

General Partner, Flybridge Capital Partners

Michael founded Flybridge Capital Partners and is a General Partner focusing on information technology, healthcare and medical technology investments. He currently represents Flybridge Capital Partners on the boards of BlueTarp, MicroCHIPS, Predictive Biosciences, ProteinForest and VidSys and led the firm's investment in T2 Biosystems and Magen BioSciences.

Prior to founding Flybridge Capital Partners, Michael was with Polaris Venture Partners, where he focused on both early-stage and later-stage financings for emerging growth companies. Before Polaris, Michael served for over five years as Senior Vice President and Founding Partner of GCC Investments, a successful $200 million private equity fund. Prior to GCC Investments, Michael was a Vice President and one of the early professionals at Wasserstein Perella & Co., an international merchant bank with a $1.0 billion private equity fund. Additionally, Michael was a member of the Mergers and Acquisitions Department of Morgan Stanley & Co. and worked in the Leveraged Buyout Group of Credit Suisse First Boston.

In previous positions, Michael has served on the Boards of a number of public and private companies including Global TeleSystems Group (NASDAQ: GTSG), El Sitio International (NASDAQ: LCTO), MotherNature.com (NASDAQ: MTHR), Crescent Communications (acquired by Clear Channel), Fleetcor Technologies and American Capital Access.

Michael currently serves as the President of the New England Venture Capital Association, is a member of the Executive Business Advisory Council for Mass General Hospital for Children, and is a trustee and on the investment committee of the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary.

Michael received a BA with honors in Chemistry from Williams College and an MBA fromHarvard Business School.

Robert S. Langer, Sc.D.

Institute Professor, Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Dr. Langer is one of 13 Institute Professors (the highest rank awarded to a faculty member) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Bob has written more than 900 articles and has over 550 issued or pending patents worldwide (one of which was cited as the outstanding patent in Massachusetts in 1988 and one of 20 outstanding patents in the U.S.). He has received nearly 150 major awards, including the Gairdner Foundation International Award (68 recipients have subsequently received a Nobel Prize), the Lemelson-MIT Prize (the world's largest prize for invention), and the Charles Stark Draper Prize (the world's most prestigious engineering prize, from the National Academy of Engineering). In 1989, Bob was elected to the Institute of Medicine and the National Academy of Sciences, and in 1992 he was elected to both the National Academy of Engineering and to the National Academy of Sciences. Forbes Magazine (1999) and Bio World (1990) have named him as one of the 25 most important individuals in biotechnology in the world.

Bob has received honorary doctorates from multiple institutions. He received a Bachelor's Degree from Cornell University in 1970 and his Sc.D. from MIT in 1974, both in chemical engineering.

Martin Madaus

President, CEO and Chairman, Millipore Corporation

Dr. Madaus currently serves as President, CEO and Chairman at Millipore Corporation. Millipore is a leader in the life science industry, providing multi-disciplinary scientific expertise and a broad portfolio of leading edge technologies, tools and services for bioscience research and biopharmaceutical manufacturing.

Dr. Madaus came to Millipore from Roche Diagnostics Corporation where, as President and Chief Executive Officer (2000-2004), he was responsible for the North American Operations. Prior to that, he was Vice President of Business Development for Roche Molecular Diagnostics. Dr. Madaus joined Roche in 1998 when he was general manager of Boehringer Mannheim Canada, through the acquisition of Boehringer Mannheim by Roche. From 1989 to 1998, Dr. Madaus worked at Boehringer Mannheim in senior management, sales and marketing, and product management roles both in Germany and in the United States. Dr. Madaus is a director of the Massachusetts High Technology Council, the New England Healthcare Institute, the Massachusetts Workforce Development Investment Board, and the YMCA of Greater Boston. He has served on the Board of Directors of AdvaMed and was Chair of its In Vitro Diagnostic working committee.

Paul A. Maeder

Managing General Partner, Highland Capital Partners

Paul Maeder is a co-founder and Managing General Partner of Highland Capital Partners, focusing on technology and healthcare investments. He has over twenty-two years experience in venture capital and currently serves on the boards of Amp Resources LLC, Avidyne, Bit9, BlueTarp Financial, Imprivata, Predictive Biosciences, StreamBase Systems, Vertica, and Village Ventures. Paul is a former director of Avid Technology (Nasdaq: AVID), CheckFree (Nasdaq: CKFR), Chipcom, HighGround Systems (acquired by Sun Microsystems), Mainspring (acquired by IBM), Relicore (acquired by Symantec), SCH (acquired by Legato Systems), SQA (acquired by Rational Corporation), Sybase (Nasdaq: SYBS), VistaPrint (Nasdaq: VPRT) and WebLine Communications (acquired by Cisco Systems).

Before co-founding Highland, Paul was a general partner at a Boston-based venture capital partnership where he concentrated on software investments. Prior to entering venture capital, he held operating positions for six years in high-growth technology companies. At Novacor Corporation he managed several projects in the development of an implantable artificial heart. Later, Paul was responsible for the development of a complex visual field examination instrument at Synemed Corporation where he also headed the company's mechanical engineering and software development.

Paul earned his B.S.E. in Aerospace and Mechanical Sciences from Princeton University, his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University and his MBA from Harvard Business School.
